Quality Assurance Manager:

·   Effectively managed more than two dozen vendors and employees to orchestrate, develop, and implement comprehensive testing strategies with the goal of standardizing and modernizing the company’s Information Technology (IT) infrastructure.  Provided direction and guidance around IT modernization, looking for every opportunity at maximizing cost savings.

·   Performed the functions of several individuals by managing the quality assurance efforts of multiple projects spanning the FedEx Enterprise product portfolio.  Led the coordination of multiple test teams across projects and applications.

·   Found opportunities for process improvement by developing a comprehensive test dashboard reporting system used across test organizations.  This system effortlessly and seamlessly aggregated test information from disparate data sources and provided concise, detailed and dynamic information to stakeholders.  The Live Status Reporting (LSR) system was built using ASP.NET, C#, SQL Server 2005, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Internet Information Services (IIS), Ajax, and RSS technologies.  This core infrastructure improvement initiative was directly responsible for promoting the use of .NET technologies within the company and demonstrated the flexibility of agile processes to officers and directors.  The projected five-year savings of this system was estimated in excess of $497,400. LSR was built with approximately 40,000 lines of C# code and 15,000 lines of TSQL.

·   Introduced and piloted an agile development effort to demonstrate the cost savings of this approach to software development.  The subsequent customer registration process was significantly streamlined and resulted in an extraordinary improvement in code quality.  Defect detection increased by more than 1,157% over previous releases.  Call center volume fell by a dramatic 30% and the cost savings to the company was in excess of several hundred thousand dollars within the first year of release, which was well above projected expectations.

·   Architected and implemented the idea of Quality Gates, a program designed to ensure that quality is built into code prior to developers checking it in.  Led the effort to define the tools and resources required to standardize static code analysis and code coverage across the company.  These efforts have significantly reduced the number of defects across the FedEx portfolio of products and have made sustainable improvements in speed to market.

·   Regularly discovered cross-site scripting and SQL injection vulnerabilities across dot com products and ensured that they were properly fixed.

·   Authored the Detailed Test Plan Specification (DTPS), which is now used as a template by all other quality assurance analysts within FedEx Services as a guide for preparing their test plans.

·   Recognized as the quality assurance subject matter expert within the company.  Regularly provide guidance and direction to FedEx Directors and Senior Vice Presidents (SVP) on the nature of testing activities within the company.

·   Awarded the Rising Star by Digital Access Marketing for excellence in teamwork, leadership, and technical prowess while acting as the test lead and coordinator for an agile project that significantly streamlined the customer registration experience and resulted in significant cost savings to the company.

·   Honorary recipient of the Five Star Award, an award for only the most prestigious individuals within FedEx who have demonstrated continuous excellence within IT.

Microsoft1/2001 – 7/2007

Redmond WA

Major responsibilities included project management, developing test plans, providing test case development guidance, implementing and maintaining automation, leading the design and implementation of automation frameworks, conducting performance, stress, and reliability (PSR) tests, aggregating and analyzing defect metrics and test results, creating and testing software documentation, and coordinating test-related activities among various stakeholders and disciplines.  Proficient in C#, ASP.NET, design patterns, UML, and many other technologies.  Responsible for the concurrent management of three projects, nine full time employees, and twelve offshore vendors.

Project Manager:

·               Project manager for the testing of a variety of vertical solutions built using Microsoft BizTalk Server, Content Management Server, and Microsoft SQL Server.  Responsible for planning all test-related activities, providing test guidance and direction to ensure that all solutions and features were appropriately tested for functionality, globalization, localization, accessibility, security, scalability, and reliability, and that they met or exceeded stress and performance criteria.

·               Project Manager for the testing of the content publishing platform infrastructure that was used by virtually all MSN (*.msn) and Windows Live (*.live) domains.  Worked on Windows Live 2.0 deliverables for customer signup, beta participation, and merchandising.

·               Performed release management functions and developed a comprehensive tracking document for measuring the quality of a project during the software development lifecycle (SDLC).

·               Developed master test plan and test design specification templates.

·               Served as the principal test lead for Microsoft’s Billing and Account Management (BAM) system.  Managed the testing of three other web applications, including CD Order, Member Center, and Web-Based User Management (WBUM).

·               Spearheaded the effort to integrate public newsgroup forums into the division as part of an effort to open a direct line of communication with the customer.

Software Architect:

·               Primary architect for the development of the content publishing platform automation framework.  Internally referred to as the Merchandising Automation Framework (MAF), this object-oriented library was comprised of more than 17,617 lines of code and was instrumental in allowing testers to effortlessly implement approximately 70% of 1,100 test cases in less than three months.  Prior to the development of this framework, all testing was done manually.  This framework significantly increased the productivity of the division and singularly allowed the product team to achieve 67% code coverage in a very short period of time.  Most noteworthy, however, is that the framework was recognized as the best test code that had ever been developed as part of a product team across the division.

·               Developed a middle-tier web services architecture for providing dependency update information, so automation could reliably determine whether to proceed or pause while dependent services were unavailable.

·               Served as one of several architects and developers of the Echo automation framework, an object-oriented framework that provides comprehensive support for automating Win 32 and web applications.  This framework was used by more than 30 teams (220 testers) across Microsoft and was at the core of test code automation.

·               Chairman of the Windows Live Experience Security Working Group, responsible for unifying the disparate security efforts of other teams and individuals across the division.  Additional responsibilities included documenting best practices, providing training material for new hires, ensuring uniform security testing practices were being adhered to across product teams, and outlining educational requirements and resources.

Other noteworthy accomplishments included the following:

·   As the assistant training officer, led the architecture and development of an advanced CBT (computer-based training) system to support the fleet certification process for more than 500 sailors.  Prior to this system, the certification pass rate was approximately 60%.  After the system deployed, the pass rate increased to 85%.

·   Developed a real-time system for processing aviation safety assessment questionnaires required of all pilots as part of their post-flight debriefing process.  Using Java, JDBC, and SQL Server, this system aggregated questionnaire data that had originally been mailed back to the School of Aviation Safety at the Naval Postgraduate School.  Consequently, this work eliminated the need for survey mailings and allowed tactical commanders the ability to assess the safety readiness of their squadrons.  Called back to the Naval Postgraduate School (on behalf of the sponsor) to complement this system with an intuitive ASP application that allowed tactical commanders to dig further into understanding the data.

·   Certified as a Combat Information Center Warfare Officer (CICWO) aboard the USS Hewitt (DD-966).  Made numerous deployments as the SSES Cryptologic Division Officer, leading and coordinating collection efforts in accordance with USSS directives.
